International Islamic Fair 2008 goes to Dubai

DUBAI, June 27 (The Criteria) – The long awaited news regarding the choice of location for the first ever International Islamic Fair outside of Malaysia (its home country), was finally revealed here yesterday afternoon. The International Islamic Fair 2008 (IIF2008) is planned to take place in Dubai in early November. This was announced to the press at the MOU signing ceremony between Saba Islamic Media of Malaysia as the IIF brand owner and Hellix Exhibition Org. & Mgmt as the host country organiser.

The signing was held at the Malaysian MATRADE centre here in the presence of the Malaysian Consulate General to Dubai, Syed Mohamad HasrinTengku Hussin, and the Malaysian Trade Commissioner to the UAE, Noraslan Hadi Abdul Kadir. Managing Director of Saba Islamic Media who is also the Chairperson of IIF, Mdm Sabariah Abdullah, represented Saba while Hellix was represented by Abdel Monem Osman, its General Manager.

IIF is a people-to-people, three-in-one annual event comprising of a trade exhibition, a conference and a gala dinner nasheed concert. The first two events – IIF2006 and IIF2007, held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur, were very well received with exhibitors in 25 trade categories, conference speakers and nasheed artists from all over the world.

International Islamic Fair 2008 Comes To Dubai

DUBAI, June 27 (Bernama) -- The International Islamic Fair (IIF) 2008 is expected to take place in Dubai in early November in what its organisers describe as an effort to intensify and globalise the IIF "wind of change".

It will be the first time that what is touted to be "a people-to-people, business-to-business three-in-one event" promoting Islamic products and services to both Muslims and non-Muslims is being organised outside Malaysia.

IIF brand owner, Saba Islamic Media Sdn Bhd from Malaysia, is working with its Dubai-based partner Helix Exhibition Organiser and Management to hold the event comprising a trade exhibition, conference on issues affecting the Muslim ummah and gala dinner concert.

IIF chairperson, Sabariah Abdullah, said Dubai was chosen as the first overseas venue of IIF given its prominence and position as the hub of the Gulf region as well as the Middle East.

IIF2007 ENDED EVENING OF 29TH JULY

The second three-in-one annual International Islamic Fair - IIF2007, finally came to an end on Sunday evening of July the 29^th. The IIF Chairperson, Sabariah Abdullah, in her closing speech at the end of the IIF Conference, stressed the point that instead of thinking in terms of the end of another IIF event, people should view it as the beginning of another year of on-the-ground activities towards achieving the IIF long term objectives on the various fronts - economic, social, human relations and world peace.

Making doubly sure the intent of IIF is not forgotten until the next event (IIF2008), she added: “We are looking for CHANGE - change within the ummah and change in the big wide world we live in. We all know it’s not going to be easy. But we also know that not to make the effort is not an option…”.

EXHIBITORS’ COMMENT ON THE IIF2007 TRADE EXHIBITION

The fact that three different trade exhibitions happened simultaneously at the PWTC venue, plus the split floors IIF2007 exhibition space concept – have been quoted by some exhibitors on the upper floor as the main reasons for a ‘lesser turn-out of visitors’ on the floor. Asked for comment, the Organizer - while not absolutely convinced of the validity of this claim, remarked the exhibitors’ comments are highly valued and will certainly be taken into account in future planning of IIF trade exhibition.

What? You missed it again??!.....

Yes, like last year’s IIF2006 Conference, the IIF2007 Conference (ended on 29^th July ’07) fulfilled most of its pre-event promises – as far as content goes. In addition to the presence of William Rodriguez (last survivor of 9/11) as a session moderator, the conference participants were also ‘thrilled’ by the lectures of other overseas speakers including Sheikh Imran Hosein (former N.York mosque imam), H.E. Mahdi Ibrahim Muhammad (Ambassador / member of National Assembly, Sudan), Annie Machon (former British Intelligence MI5 agent) and Khaled Taha of Aljazeera, Qatar. Live via teleconferencing we had Dr Doug Rokke - former head, Depleted Uranium Project of the US Army), and Sheikh Yusuf Estes – former priest turned speaker on Islam.
